The Samsung Galaxy S7 may include something that Galaxy S6 users have sorely missed in the last year, decent battery life. New details from notable leakster, Eldar Murtazin , suggest the Galaxy S7 may be able to support video playback for up to 17 hours with its display at maximum brightness.
This report follows many repeated rumors that the Galax S7 may feature a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S7 Edge may feature a 3,600mAh battery. If accurate, this would be a major capacity upgrade from the Galaxy S6, which features a 2,550mAh battery and the Galaxy S6 Edge, which featured a 2,600mAh battery.
We imagine Samsung will utilize extensive software optimization plus a little help from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip to ramp up the battery power on the Galaxy S7. Tech blog SamMobile notes the rugged Samsung Galaxy S6 Active features a 3,500mAh battery, which supports up to 11 hours of Netflix video playback. Murtazin’s report does not specify whether the video playback ability on the Galaxy S7 is native video playback or video streaming.
Samsung was heavily criticized in 2015 for releasing the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge with non-removable backs. The devices did not include a microSD slot like older Galaxy smartphones, nor were users able to remove the batteries in these handsets.
However, in December 2015, iDigitalTimes speculated that some of Samsung’s recently launched devices held clues to specs and features slated for the Galaxy S7. Mid-tier and low end devices like the Galaxy A9, Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A5 (2016) all feature a unibody design similar to the Galaxy S7, as well as a microSD slot and battery capacities larger than the Galaxy S6. iDigi suggested these devices may be design and feature test beds for the Galaxy S7 to similarly have a unibody design with a microSD slot and a high battery capacity.
However, at this time all details and speculations about the Galaxy S7 remain unconfirmed. Samsung is expected to announce it next flagship in February, just prior to Mobile World Congress.
