The Galaxy S8 may include some interesting features, such as a no-bezel display and a personal assistant feature similar to Apple’s Siri or Microsoft’s Cortana, according to recent reports.
Galaxy Club recently discovered a Samsung trademark listing for the name “Bixby,” which is what the Dutch Blog believes the manufacturer will call its artificial intelligence platform. Currently not much is known about the feature, outside of Samsung’s acquisition of Viv Labs. The AI-focused startup may assist the company in developing its personal assistant for smartphones, such as the Galaxy S8. Viv Labs AI program is open sourced, which would allow third-party developers to build upon its code and create new uses cases for the feature.
Samsung is also developing a display with a 90 percent screen ratio with no-bezel display, according to a report by The Investor. The manufacturer showcased prototypes of the display at the iMiD 2016 exhibition in Seoul last week. Rumors have long suggested the Galaxy S8 may feature an updated, high resolution screen. At this time it is not confirmed whether the prototype will end up being a feature on the Galaxy S8.
Recently, Samsung Samsung Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong said the Galaxy S8 will feature a “slick design,” which could hint at a wide screen ratio. Rumors also suggest the Galaxy S8 may have a standard curved display, similar to the Galaxy Note 7. Lee also revealed the Galaxy S8 will feature an “improved camera.”
The smartphone is expected to release in spring 2017, likely with a February announcement and March launch to market.
