Shadow Of The Colossus Remake Dev’s Next Project Is Another Remake

Developer Bluepoint Games has seemingly found its niche in high-quality remakes of older games. The company’s most recent release, Shadow of the Colossus, is a breathtaking facelift on one of my favorite games of all time. The company doesn’t seem like it will sway from its success—job postings state the next game from Bluepoint will be another remake.

The nice part about this bit of news is that this isn’t a rumor or derived from some unidentified source. As plainly stated on the Bluepoint hiring page for a Senior Graphics Engineer, the listing reads “We are passionately at work remaking a classic for current-gen game systems, growing our capabilities as a team and raising the bar for what fans anticipate from us.” The emphasis was even added by Bluepoint themselves.

The only question that remains is what game Bluepoint is working on. The smart money is on a PlayStation exclusive, as Bluepoint has previously done remakes and remasters for Shadow of the Colossus, the PS3 Uncharted trilogy, Gravity Rush, Flower and others. Seeing as how “remake” is emphasized over “remaster,” it’s likely this will be an older game. Newer games just need some cleaning up, whereas older titles need the care and attention of a complete overhaul.

“Older PlayStation exclusives” doesn’t really narrow down the options for what this game could be. Here are a few good suggestions: Jak and Daxter, any SOCOM game, Sly Cooper, Killzone, and Spyro the Dragon. It’s probably safe to say Ratchet and Clank is NOT one of the options, as the remake of the original was just released a few years ago.

Another solid guess is MediEvil. We know a remake is in the works, but we don’t know who is behind it. Details are scarce right now, but there is a planned MediEvil release for 2018, so Sony had better start talking specifics soon. However, if there is a planned release in 2018, it’s likely Bluepoint wouldn’t be hiring for the project this late into development.

So what do you think? Are you curious to see what game will get the Bluepoint Seal of Remake Excellence next? What older game would you like to see new life breathed into? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
