The Sims 4: Vampires is available now and there are a lot of elements to the new life state. It doesn’t take long to master a few cool supernatural powers, like mind control and transforming into a bat, but leveling up in rank to learn all the 20+ powers will take dedication. Here’s what you’ll need to know to become a Grand Master.
HOW TO LEVEL UP
The first way to increase rank is to use your powers, feed and drink plasma. Dark Meditation is one of the easiest ways to start. Self-click to access the option. You’ll also have the ability to show off your powers to other Vampires and once you choose a power, use it on another Sim. When meeting another Vampire, there’s the option to Sparr under friendly interaction. Make sure there’s enough floor space to duel or else the Sims will refuse to do it. Practicing skills, in addition to develping the vampire lore skill, will give you new vampire knowldge to make life easier.
VAMPIRE LORE SKILL
Go the the computer and look up Vampire Secrets. After a few quick minutes of research, you’ll be able to buy plasma packs and the first ancient Vampire encyclopedia book. Just a heads up, you cannot buy these books in the normal buy book menu. You must visit the computer under the Vampire Secrets menu. Once a Vampire places it in their inventory, you can place it in the world and lower level vampires will have access to it. There are four books that span 15 levels. Continue to develop this skill and you'll unlock the ability to order plasma seeds and grow plasma fruit, all necesary knowledge to become a Grand Master. For more information on skill levels and satisfying vampire needs, such as growing plasma fruit, read our Vampire needs and skills guide.
VAMPIRE TRAINING
When meeting an elder Vampire or vampire of higher rank, the lower ranked vampire will have the opportunity to ask for training. If your Vampire has knowledge to extend, other vampires may also ask for knowledge or training. So making friends with other Vampires and living in Forgotten Hollow with Vampire neighbors will make leveling up a lot easier.
POWERS PANEL
At the bottom of the needs tab, there’s a book icon. Click on that to bring up the power points panel. Vampire point are organized by rank. Ranks go from Fledgling (1-2 Points), Minor (3), Prime (4), Master (5) and Grand Master Vampire (6 Points). As you increase in rank, you will have to choose weaknesses in addition to powers. Some Vampire powers exist in multiple ranks, meaning as you get more points, more levels of that power will be unlocked. If you save your points as you rank up, you’ll be able to gain the upper-level powers perks faster. However, even when you level up to Grand Master, you can continue to gain perk points and eventually the vampire will be able to access all the powers with only five weaknesses.
VAMPIRE POWERS & RANK
Vampire rank starts at Fledgling and ends at Grand Master. Some vampire perks may prove more useful along the way than others. For example, there’s an advantage to choosing Occult Student because it helps you build skills faster to gain more points. Child of the Moon allows you to do vampire stuff more efficiently at night, which makes it a lot easier to improve rank. Sun Resistance is amazing because it allows a Vampire to have a life more like that of a regular Sim. Influence Emotion is one of the most dangerous powers, because the Vampire has the ability to kill another Sim. And then there’s more fun powers like Mist Form and Super Speed. Here is a description of each organized by rank.
FLEDGLING
MINOR
PRIME
MASTER
Dampened Emotions - (3 Ranks) - Your vampire will have a level emotional state and won’t be affected by buffs like embarrassed from social interactions. However, it can prevent positive moodlets like confident.
Supernatural Speed - Run at superspeed.
Deprive Needs - Nearly exhaust the needs bar of another Sim. This is a pretty evil power because you can make another Sim pee their pants or reek of body odor.
Sun Resistance - (3 Ranks) - Reaching Rank 3 with this perk will allow the vampire to go out in daylight just like a normal Sim. At rank 2, the effects of sunlight are reduced by half. At rank 1, by 33 percent.
GRAND MASTER
Influence Emotion (3 Ranks) - Influence a nearly Sim to feel a certain emotion. With great power comes great responsibility, and this vampire perk is proof of that. Upon mastering this power, the moodlet you give another Sim could be so strong, it could kill them with hysteria or other extreme emotions.
Mist Form - This Vampire will teleport anywhere, even if you don’t direct them to.
Beyond the Herd - The social bar will never deplete.
Tamed Thirst - Control your Vampire’s urge to feed on other Sims when their thirst bar is low. It makes it easier on them, and you by not having to have plasma packs on deck.
Immortal Pleasures - Never get bored again. This could make gameplay a bit boring, but this vampire won’t mind studying all day either.
WEAKNESSES
2. Fitful Sleep conflicts with Vampiric Slumber
3. Eternal Sadness conflicts with Dampened Emotions
4. Thin Skinned conflicts with Sun Resistance
5. Insatiable Thirst conflicts with Tamed Thirst
Some weaknesses are better to choose than others. Withered Stomach does suck, but your Vampire will be feeding on plasma all of the time anyway. It’s a good sacrifice. Guilty Drinker isn’t bad if you chose the Good Vampire aspiration because your vampire won’t want to feed on Sims as much anyway. Thin Skinned is terrible and your Vampire could die from the sunlight, but if you choose it, you may as well pick Day Phobia too. Here are all 11 options sorted by rank.
FLEDGLING
Guilty Drinker - Get permission from Sims before feeding on them or else this Vampire will start feeling very stressed. Usually feeding gets the vampire in a good mood so this isn’t the best weakness to choose unless you have the Good Vampire aspiration.
Uncontrollable Hissing - These vampires hiss uncontrollably and attract the attention of regular Sims. Good luck finding a girlfriend.
MINOR
Sloppy Drinker - This vampire drinks like a toddler and wastes a lot of plasma juice on the regular, up to 25 percent less thirst points.
Thin Skinned - (3 Ranks) - The sun can be up to two times more harmful for these vampires, meaning there’s a high chance you could get killed if out in the sunlight.
PRIME
Sleep of the Undead - Can only sleep in coffins. This is a wonderful weakness because why wouldn’t you want your vampire to sleep in a coffin?
Fitful Sleep (2 Ranks) - Gain less power during sleep.
MASTER
Insatiable Thirst - Better have the eternally welcome power because these vampires’ thirst is exhausted twice as fast.
Day Phobia - (3 Ranks) - These vampires experience a loss of power during the daytime, but only while outside. This weakness isn’t a bad idea for vampires who are already thin skinned, since you can’t go outside anyway.
