A new crossover is coming to SMITE and it could be the largest ever in the game, and that's because it's with none other than Magic: The Gathering. In this crossover, the game's main mode Conquest introduces a new map that features fresh art and layout, new monsters, structures, and objectives, among others, live on January 24.
In this upcoming crossover, iconic Magic: The Gathering characters Chandra Nalaar, Jace Beleren, Liliana Vess, Karn, and Atraxa are joining SMITE as skins for legendary deities. These characters are sure to feel at home among the game's warring gods, the Battleground of the Gods, where they can endlessly tap into their power without fearing mana death.
But wait there's more! More Planeswalkers and creatures are arriving at this plane with another five joining the game's second update of the year. That means 10 playable skins available from Magic: The Gathering. There are also free quests and a multitude of cosmetics like the Power Nine loading frame and a themed level-up skin.
The Fire Giant
As big as the crossover is, it's not the only large thing arriving in the game. On the same day, none other than the Fire Giant Surtr, who's been the iconic jungle boss since the open beta, now breaks free from his shackles and becomes the new playable god. As a warrior from the Nordic pantheon, he'll be taking revenge on those who cut him down for more than a decade, and with each defeat, his wrath grows even stronger.
Those who play as this chaotic strength of nature get to spawn fiery imps that can be hurled at enemies. They can also strike foes with a blazing blade in rings of fire and experience what it means to be an extinction event by transforming into a flaming meteor that crashes down from the skies.
The Season of Monsters
The arrival of Surtr also signals the start of the Season of Monsters, the first of the four seasons of Year 10. Each season is set to introduce sweeping changes to the game.
For the Season of Monsters, new designs affect the entire Conquest battleground, with jungle, lane structure, and fortified bases on both sides. This new jungle is home to rogue Cyclops, new buffs, and treasure chests. There are also the new "Tower Bastions" structures which strengthen lane towers.
SMITE is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
