Sony ended its E3 2017 press conference with the upcoming Spider-Man game from Insomniac Games and it did not disappoint.
The brand new trailer showcased the first gameplay of the Spider-Man title with a ton of easter eggs and story beats that weren’t revealed before the Sony press conference. Before we get into what made the Spider-Man PS4 trailer great, check it out below.
The first thing viewers will notice is how Spider-Man moves in-game. It’s very Arkham Asylum-esque in how you can be stealthy and deal with multiple enemies at once. Spider-Man can leap around firing webshots at enemy faces. But the coolest part of the new Spider-Man trailer was the way you can interact with objects.
As for the story of Spider-Man, the brief clip showed Spider-Man talking to Wilson Fisk AKA The Kingpin (who happens to be in jail) for information as he tries and protects Fisk’s men from The Demons.
The Demons are led by Mister Negative, a relatively new Spider-Man villain who will likely not be the only boss you’ll encounter in this game.
Easter eggs are prevalent throughout the Spider-Man E3 2017 trailer. The first being the Osborn for Mayor sign that is shown. Spider-Man fans know that Osborn is likely referring to Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin and archnemesis of the webcrawler.
And who could forget the last few seconds at the end of the trailer where a group of teens are looking at the downed helicopter stopped by Spider-Man and one of them calls out for Miles. This is a clear nod to Miles Morales, the Spider-Man of the Ultimate Universe in Marvel Comics.
This is likely just an easter egg and not something that is part of the actual story but we could be wrong. How awesome would it be if there were two Spider-Men in this game?
Spider-Man will release exclusively for PlayStation 4 in 2018.
