We have more E3 speculation incoming for you, and this time it could possibly be one of the biggest announcements made in gaming in the last few years.

Back in 2017, Square Enix, along with developer Crystal Dynamics, released a short and incredibly vague teaser of one of their upcoming projects; The Avengers Project is a game “being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise,” according to Square Enix. The title is expected to feature a completely new and original story, and introduces an in-game universe which players can enjoy for years to come. Check out the teaser below.

Details on The Avengers Project were expected to drop sometime in 2018, alongside other planned Marvel games. Of course, 2018 came and went without any new information dropping whatsoever, and with the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently ending The Infinity Saga with the release of Avengers: Endgame, fans of the franchise are wondering where this project has gone.

If you dig deep enough, you’re bound to strike gold. Or a big chunk of useless bedrock. In any case, speculation about The Avengers Project is running wild, with this latest bit of digging actually making some sense. First, let’s take a look at two E3 2019-related tweets from Square Enix, made exactly one month apart.

Looking at it from the surface, the tweets relay basically the exact information: Square Enix will be holding its E3 conference on Monday, June 10 at 9:00 p.m. EDT. The photo accompanying the announcement includes a frame, flanked by two other framed pictures only partially seen. This is the same photo for both tweets, with the only key difference being the colors within the two flanked frames.

If you look closely, those colors are actually colors for four of the Infinity Stones: the April announcement has green for the Time Stone and blue for the Space Stone, while the May announcement has purple for the Power Stone and Orange for the Soul Stone. If this is indeed something, then props to Square Enix for a cleverly hidden clue. If this is just a coincidental color scheme, however, maybe Square Enix will actually commend the idea and give us some new info anyway. Whatever works, I guess.

In any case, more will be revealed during E3, where Square Enix will reveal more details about its upcoming lineup of games. Some of these titles are even cross-generational, meaning we could get to see the first titles for the new generation of consoles.
