Ubisoft’s current crop of virtual reality titles will all support cross-platform play, the embattled publisher announced this week, beginning with last month’s Eagle Flight and continuing through next year’s release of Star Trek: Bridge Crew. And that could be big news for the VR industry.
Word of the cross-platform support comes courtesy of the UbiBlog, where a new post outlines the publisher’s plans to let PlayStation VR, Rift and Vive owners interact with one another. Don’t worry. You don’t need to understand how the PlayStation Network works or any kind of technical information about your preferred VR headset. The announcement is just a few paragraphs, with a brief statement from Red Storm Senior Creative Director David Votypka, confirming Eagle Flight, Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Werewolves Within will all support cross-platform play.
“Making our VR titles cross-platform has been a goal of ours from the start,” said Votypka. “Letting friends play together regardless of which headset they own will enhance the social nature of our games and let them be played the way we envisioned.”
