Star Wars Battlefront 2 Story Mode Is Shorter Than You'd Think

It’s awesome that Star Wars Battlefront 2 has a story mode. Based on the trailer released yesterday, it looks like there will be an interesting plot set in a yet-unexplored time in the Star Wars universe. Unfortunately, the campaign might not be as long as you want it to be.

According to an interview with EA Motive Studio Producer David Robillard on Press Start, the Star Wars Battlefront 2 single-player campaign will only be five to seven hours long. “We thought that around five to seven, maybe eight hours is probably a good amount of time… we wanted to stay very driven towards the Star Wars fantasy that the players are going to experience and not have it be drawn out,” Robillard said.

Player.One had the opportunity to demo the story mode, and found the first three chapters to take around 90 minutes to complete. The short demo we played was actually around a quarter of the total campaign. What’s worse is this was played on the hardest setting, so it could take even less time to complete for some.

When asked if there will be future expansions to the story mode alongside the expected map packs for multiplayer mode, Robillard didn’t have much to say. “We’re not ready to announce anything at this time, we’ll see based on the reception the single player has, if we offer free DLC or not,” he said.

This doesn’t look good for the Star Wars Battlefront 2 single-player campaign. In our hands-on impressions, we also noted combat felt low-risk, as AI enemies constantly bumbled around without making much of a threat. While the story seems incredibly interesting, the gameplay around it doesn’t seem to match the same quality.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 17.
