Details on the much-anticipated Star Wars: Episode 8 are beginning to leak with each passing day. The past couple months have confirmed that Episode 8, which supposedly centers on Luke Skywalker’s Jedi teachings to Rey is underway with production. Leaked images are also beginning to surface. Recently, set photos emerged online showcasing Star Wars locations in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The city’s medieval architecture made it an ideal filming location for the Game of Throne’s King’s Landing. Now, it will apparently provide the landscape, complete with interesting neon lighting, for an entirely new planet in a galaxy far, far away.
Dubrovnik won’t be the only new location in Episode 8, as reports indicate that director Rian Johnson had a team scout cavernous areas in Mexico. Those claims tie in line with Star Wars 8’s Luke and Rey theories. The similarities between the pair and Yoda/Young Luke’s Jedi training on the isolated swamp planet of Dagobah are striking. Until we see any confirmed photos, however, we’ll just have to focus on locations definitely appearing Star Wars: Episode 8, like Dubrovnik.
According to MosCroatia, a Star Wars fan site (h/t Dork Side of the Force ), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) are involved in a “night chase” in the Croatian city (this would explain all the neon lighting). Furthermore, the site claims that Hamill and Ridley are headed to Dubrovnik to film scenes in early March. For all we know, the duo could be in Europe right now. Here’s a quote from the Croatian-language site deciphered, albeit rather sloppily with Google Translate:
“With exceptional pleasure to announce that it probably Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Daisy Ridley (Rey)!”
MosCroatia allegedly sent out scouts dressed as Darth Vader and a platoon of Stormtroopers to gather some intel. They recounted the difficulties of the experience in their post (again, Google Translate needs some work): “Until the information is not easy to come by, but when you’re in costume is not easy to get even on the set itself. The phenomenon of our members in Stradun caused indescribable crowd and attraction, media interest, but also of the people of Dubrovnik who wanted to take pictures with well-known villains saga. Of course, too much interest did not suit the production and is set visit was short, but as you can see, fruitful.”
When you piece this information together with a new set photo, which also leaked on MosCroatia earlier today (h/t Making Star Wars), the story starts to seem rather plausible. Luke and Rey are supposedly involved in a “night chase,” and lo and behold an image of a landspeeder in Dubrovnik has surfaced on the Internet. Check it out below:
This certainly aligns with MosCroatia’s claims! The site also revealed that “dress rehearsals begins tonight” (March 2).
We probably won’t see a trailer for Episode 8 anytime soon, but if and when it features Luke Skywalker and Rey racing around in a landspeeder, don’t say I didn’t tell you so!
