As January comes to a close, anticipation is ramping up for the next installment in the galaxy far, far away - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The “anthology” spin-off film is set for a December release date and new rumors continue to emerge as the premiere edges closer. We know that Rogue One will jump back from the events of Episode VII - The Force Awakens, and drop us in the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope to follow a band of rebel spies attempting to steal the plans of the first Death Star.
Specific information regarding Rogue One’s characters still remains elusive, unfortunately. The cast features some pretty well-known names, including Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), martial arts star Donnie Yen and Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen. Perhaps the most high-profile actor on the list, however, is Oscar winner Forest Whitaker. Naturally, we’re delighted to see the first tidbits of information for his character slip out to the public.
The ever-vigilant Making Star Wars recently published some details about Whitaker’s character, which is not a stretch to believe considering its credible reporting success rate. Editor-in-Chief Jason Ward calls the information a “leg up,” which you’ll quickly realize is a bit of a pun once you read the role description. Take a look for yourself below and remember there are some minor spoilers:
Star Wars: Rogue One - Forest Whitaker Character Details
The Making Star Wars report states:
- Forest Whitaker’s character uses a cane.
- It appears he has one leg and uses a cane as a crutch to walk.
- He appears to be a veteran of some battles, but it isn’t clear if he lost his leg fighting in the Clone Wars or against the Empire.
- Based on a differentiated code name from the rest of the rebels in the movie, it appears he is likely good but maybe a bounty hunter affiliated type (more on this later).
- He seems to be a “good guy” in Rogue One.
- He has a cape and his costume is a hodgepodge of different things (think of someone you might see at Maz’s castle).
The report also reveals that Whitaker’s missing leg is supplemented by a robotic limb, which should prove to be pretty badass if correct. In fact, pretty much the whole character sounds really fascinating, and knowing the talent that Whitaker possesses, could very well end up being one of the highlights of this Rogue One cast.
