Star Wars Battlefront 2 was the big Star Wars game at E3 2017, but we all know EA has been working on a secretive additional Star Wars game with developer Visceral and director Amy Hennig. While E3 came and went and this mystery game remained unrevealed, we may have some real info courtesy of a leak from Making Star Wars.
Dubbed “Project Ragtag,” the Star Wars game will take place after A New Hope, but before The Empire Strikes Back. This means Obi-Wan Kenobi is dead, the first Death Star has been destroyed and Luke Skywalker is just starting to figure out his Jedi abilities.
However, this game won’t focus on any familiar faces, instead creating a new character nicknamed Dodger. He earned this title because he “dodged” the Imperial draft, instead diving into the criminal underworld to escape being forced into military service. This seedy life gives Dodger all the classic rogue scoundrel traits like being able to think fast and charm anyone’s pants off.
Dodger, originally from Alderaan, has his life made much more complex when the Empire blows up his home planet. This gets Dodger added to a “survivors list” and is now being hunted by both the Empire and bounty hunters that Dodger had considered his friends.
A way to get off the list presents itself when Dodger ends up taking a job for Jabba the Hutt. If this job is completed, Dodger will have enough money to pay a corrupt Imperial officer to get himself scrubbed off the survivors list. While doing the job, Dodger “finds something terrifying about what the Empire wants to do with the weapon that hits close to home and forces him to confront his past and the destruction of his home-world head on,” writes MSW.
We also know who will play Dodger. Todd Stashwick, an actor and writer best known for his roles in the TV series 12 Monkeys, Teen Wolf and The Originals, will voice the character. Stashwick will also serve as a co-writer for the game, a fact that has been known since late 2015.
In terms of gameplay, MSW says that Dodger will have a lightwhip/grapple stick and a blaster. These two weapons will be used at the same time, with a signature move involving Dodger grabbing an enemy with the whip and blasting the enemy with his gun. MSW reports there will be many variants on the weapons, but the core gameplay mechanics will involve a whip and a blaster.
Making Star Wars mentioned more information about the game is coming soon, but didn’t specify what it could be.
