Released in 2018 as a Microsoft Store exclusive, State of Decay 2 is getting ready to make the jump to Steam in 2020. Developer Undead Labs confirmed that the Steam version of the game will support cross-play with Xbox Live.
The first State of Decay was launched in 2013 for Xbox and Windows, but was also available to purchase from Steam. In 2018, Microsoft acquired Undead Labs and shortly after State of Decay 2 was launched as an Xbox exclusive.
If you have played the first State of Decay game, you may already know about the game’s story and mechanics. State of Decay 2 is set in a post-apocalyptic open-world that is infested with zombies. The goal for players is to team up with up to three friends and build a civilization amid the horrifying chaos. Players will need to upgrade their defenses, scavenge for ammunition and food, and interact with the environment for increasing their chances of survival.
The game is already listed on Steam and will be available for purchase next year. However, there isn’t much information that players can find on Steam’s storefront. The pricing and other details, like a release date, have yet to be revealed. The official website for State of Decay mentioned that the first State of Decay and the remastered Year One: Survival Edition was enthusiastically received by the Steam community.
It is also important to note that this is not the first exclusive Microsoft-store game coming to Steam. However, given that Microsoft is now looking toward expanding its digital storefront presence, it will be hard to ignore the large player base on Steam.
