The Pokémon Company, GameFreak and Nintendo are celebrating 20 years of Pokémon in 2016 with a lot of games and nostalgic products for Pokémon fans young and old. But when the first 20th anniversary announcement was made, it teased there will be a commercial during this year’s Super Bowl.
The contents of the Pokémon Super Bowl commercial are still a mystery. Will it be a repeat of the 20th Anniversary commercial that details all of the upcoming products? Or will it be something absolutely different?
The official Pokémon Twitter account has given a sneak peek of the Pokémon Super Bowl commercial and it’s not anything fans could have expected.
“For 20 years, the Pokémon world has inspired fans to train hard and have fun,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of Consumer Marketing at The Pokémon Company International in a press release. “This ad is reflective of that passion, and I can’t think of a bigger stage to share this story than the Super Bowl.”
The Pokémon Super Bowl commercial will be a 30-second cut of the extended version shown above and will air during the beginning of the third quarter of Super Bowl 50.
the Pokémon 20th TV commercial will also be featured in the upcoming CBS special Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials. This annual show, which will air on February 2 at 8 pm EST, revisits fan-favorite commercials from past Super Bowls and also gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Pokémon Super Bowl advertisement.
The Pokémon Super Bowl commercial doesn’t really seem like a Pokémon commercial until halfway through but it really showcases all the different people who love Pokémon .
And we even get some cool shots of people with CGI Pokémon , similar to the Pokémon GO announcement trailer. Perhaps we’ll get a release date for the upcoming mobile app? Will we finally get a Pokémon Z announcement at the end of the commercial?
Pokémon fans tune in to the 2016 Super Bowl, which airs Feb. 7 on CBS at 6:30pm EST.
