Using only the tools found in Super Mario Maker, one intrepid gamer has managed to create a working calculator. While the calculator can only add, and can only add certain numbers, it’s still insanely cool to see something like this getting made.
The Cluttered Chaos-Calculator comes from reddit user Helgefan, who has also uploaded the track ID, so you can play it at home. Helgefan’s post also explains the logic behind it, which is incredibly well thought out. Be prepared for some higher level logic talk if you want to read it.
While the level is a working calculator, the calculator can only add together two numbers that are between 0 and 7. This means the answer can only be between 0 and 14. Despite the calculator being made in binary, the level will convert the end result back to decimal.
To use the calculator, a player must run down the first hallway and jump up at the number they want. From here, jump up to the second hallway, and pick the second number you want to use. Jump up through the number’s respective slot, and make your way to the top hallway. Once done, run all the way into the warp pipe to the left.
Follow the directions, and you’ll end up with the result of your math problem after a long ride. While the video shows Mario’s trip through the calculator, you don’t get to see the whole level. It’s embedded below, but if you want a larger view, click right here.
