Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy XV may be coming to the Nintendo NX, according to a recent insider rumor. YouTuber SuperMetalDave64 is reporting that a source knowledgeable about the subject says that both the next big Final Fantasy games are coming to Nintendo’s new console, and that the games may be the definitive versions (hat tip to Nintendolife for discovering the video). Could it be true? It’s hard to say just yet, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Here’s the video:
Final Fantasy 7 NX and FF XV NX: Not So Far-Fetched
The rumor about the new Final Fantasy games admittedly doesn’t come directly from a developer, but from an unnamed insider source. But this YouTube guy has had accurate predictions in the past, so it’s not a total shot in the dark or random guess. What’s more, the rumors about the new Final Fantasy games coming to the Nintendo NX simply make sense, giving what we know so far. In fact, I’ll give you three reasons why this news is in fact pretty likely.
First off, Square Enix has reconciled with Nintendo. This happened years ago, but their relationship has continued to improve. How else can you explain the gasp-inducingly shocking news about Cloud coming to Super Smash Bros? It’s a tease, a hint toward the future, the first appearance—but maybe not the last—of an iconic character who has never once appeared on a Nintendo system before.
Second, the Nintendo NX is supposedly going to be quite powerful—at parity with the PlayStation 4, or even more powerful. That’s a great outlet for a game like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, whose main selling point is its graphics (otherwise, you’d just play the original Final Fantasy 7, already available on PS4). Even for Final Fantasy XV, having the game out for the most powerful console available simply makes sense.
Now for the real trump card: The best reason why Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy XV might come to the Nintendo NX is because Square Enix is the only developer who has actually announced anything for the Nintendo NX. Even Nintendo hasn’t. But the next Dragon Quest games were originally announced for the Nintendo NX, before Nintendo made Square Enix go all backsies. That news was proof that Square Enix is interested in Nintendo’s new system, and is the strongest evidence yet that other games might come to it from the developer in the future.
A rumor is a rumor, but sometimes game rumors are true—and this one certainly passes the smell test. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy XV may really come to the Nintendo NX, and that would be major cause for celebration.
