The Croatian city of Dubrovnik was a prosperous center of maritime trade since before the Byzantine Empire and ruled itself as a free state from the 14th century until 1808. It is one of the finest medieval walled cities left in our world. It is also King’s Landing in Game of Thrones.
The Red Keep, Littlefinger’s brothers, Blackwater Bay, and the House of the Undying were all recreated in Dubrovnik. Cersei walked its streets naked and Joffrey took his last, gasping breath here. And now Dubrovnik will also be part of the Star Wars galaxy, with Star Wars: Episode 8 shooting in the medieval city this year.
Shooting under the code name “Space Bear,” Star Wars: Episode 8 is shooting at multiple locations around Dubrovnik. StarWarsDubrovnik has pictures of the various Star Wars filming locations, many of which have also appeared in episodes of Game of Thrones.
Nothing is yet known about the plot of Star Wars: Episode 8, which is both written and directed by Rian Johnson ( Looper, Brick ). For now we just have our imaginations when it comes to how Dubrovnik will look when Star Wars: Episode 8 comes out in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. Just remember, it’s Luke, not Tyrion, astride the battlements.
