Niantic has pushed a big Pokémon Go update for both iOS and Android but it has also removed one of the biggest features of the mobile game.
Pokémon Go’s footprint tracking feature was a neat way to track down and find the Pokémon that you haven’t caught before, but after the first week a bug appeared that didn’t countdown the footprints on a Pokémon as you got closer.
Inexplicably, Niantic has removed the feature instead of fixing it. Whether this is just a temporary “fix” while the dev team figures out the bug is unknown but it does make finding Pokémon a lot harder.
Here are the complete update notes (0.31.0 for Android and 1.1.0 for iOS). from Niantic on the Pokémon Go Facebook page:
- Avatars can now be re-customized from the Trainer profile screen
- Adjusted battle move damage values for some Pokémon
- Refined certain Gym animations
- Improved memory issues
- Removed footprints of nearby Pokémon
- Modified battle damage calculation
- Various bug fixes during wild Pokémon encounter
- Updates to the Pokémon details screen
- Updated achievement medal images
- Fixed issues with displaying certain map features
- Minor text fixes
From the list above, Niantic added a way for players to customize their trainers as often as possible in the main menu. Before, once you chose your trainer’s look it was permanent but now you can change it up as you see fit.
You may also have noticed that some of the attacks have been nerfed or buffed. Serebii has begun documenting the changes in the attacks so be sure to check that out to see how your favorite Pokémon have been altered.
Serebii's webmaster, Joe Merrick has found some nuanced changes to Pokémon Go including catch rates being lower.
