Subnautica, the popular action-adventure survival game, is getting a sequel scheduled for release in 2025.
The announcement for Subnautica 2 was made during Xbox's Partner Preview event, which was held Thursday.
Subnautica 2 is meant to be the direct sequel of the original game. Subnautica: Below Zero, which was released in 2021, is treated as a spin-off.
What is Known About 'Subnautica 2'
Donya Abramo, the community manager for developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment, confirmed that the sequel will be available for the Xbox Series X/S and Windows via the Xbox Game Preview program.
Abramo also confirmed that the story of the sequel will be set beyond Planet 4546B, which is where the original game is set.
"Whether you're bringing the experience of your previous adventures with you, or are new to the Subnautica games, you'll get to explore lush new environments, encounter fascinating creatures around every corner, and uncover the secrets at the core of this mysterious planet," Abramo said on Xbox Wire.
What fans are arguably most excited about is the four-player co-op, which the game will feature.
"Co-operative multiplayer for up to four players, something that has been hotly requested by our community over the years, will be available with the Xbox Game Preview launch," Abramo explained.
"Introducing the optional co-operative experience alongside a whole new planet felt like the best opportunity to make that switch, and we're certain that it will test your ingenuity and ability to adapt as you explore the world together," Abramo added.
As of press time, no specific release date has been provided for Subnautica 2.
