The Suicide Squad Extended Cut release date is Nov. 15 on streaming platforms and Dec. 13 on Blu-ray. The announcement trailer for this new Suicide Squad suggests they’ll be plugging a lot of the footage seen in early trailers back into the movie. The version of Suicide Squad released to theaters was so altered from the original design that it’s very nearly an unprecedented Frankenstein-ian creation: the Anti-Movie, assembled of trailer material and classic rock hits in a desperate bid to vivify a corpse (or at least provide the illusion of life).
Will the Suicide Squad Extended Edition still open with character montages unworthy of an NES game? Can it retool the nonsensical energy tower that motivates the entire plot? Does anybody really need more Jared Leto?
Like with the Batman v Superman Extended Cut, the new Suicide Squad release will probably trigger a chorus of defenders, adamant that all has been made well. Or maybe not. Maybe no one in this world, having survived 2 hours and 3 minutes of Suicide Squad already, would willingly subject themselves to more.
