Developer Failbetter Games has just announced that Sunless Skies will get a free story expansion this coming June 12. Entitled 'Vagabond', the update adds all-new locations to the game, expands on Sunless Skies' rich story, and introduces players to the Amiable Vagabond, the game's newest potential candidate for recruitment.
It's only been a few months since Sunless Skies launched back in February, but for Failbetter Games, it has been plenty of time to work on the game's first major expansion and content release. With Sunless Skies receiving excellent reviews on Steam, it seems Failbetter Games was quick to show their appreciation by making the game even better with the upcoming Vagabond Update.
The Vagabond Update revolves mainly around the Amiable Vagabond and his community of what seems to be gypsies of the sky. The story involves a daring tale of lost treasures and a mythical location called the Sugarspun Garden.
Included in the Vagabond Update are all-new locations as well, with the aim of showing players more of the Horrors and Wonders of the Skies. These new locations include the Xanthous Moon and the Regent's Tears. The game world also feels richer and more alive with the addition of new encounters, agents, and events to discover and explore. Failbettter Games also hinted that there may be 'something new in the mists of Worlebury', but it seems we'll have to find out for ourselves exactly what that 'something' is come June 12.
Sunless Skies is a Gothic horror RPG that puts players in the role of an airship captain, exploring a post-apocalyptic world full of both amazing sights and creepy beings that dwell in the sky. Developed by Failbetter Games, Sunless Skies is the spiritual successor the studios' first game, Sunless Seas. While the latter was based more around a zombie-apocalypse setting and had players traverse the world on a boat, Sunless Skies took the concept to new levels and greater heights (literally). You can get Sunless Skies on Steam right now (May 14) for 20% off, and still get the Vagabond Update completely free when it launches on June 12.
