The Walking Dead: A New Frontier arrives on PS4, Xbox One and PC on Tuesday Dec. 20. The pure joy and excitement this series is going to bring to Telltale’s Walking Dead fans will be just what the doctor ordered. Here are a few things you’ll need to know about the story including the character Clementine and how to get your saves over to another gaming console to get your Walking Dead on.
Over this past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a The Walking Dead “fan” event alongside a small group of fans in NYC, organized by Telltale Games. While I can’t share too much detail of what went down, let’s just say we had an early viewing of Season 3 and it was everything we hoped it would be. Here’s a list of what you need to know.
- Episode One is titled “Ties That Bind” and will come as a two-parter. So Part I and Part II come as Episode One on launch day, which means we’ll get approximately three hours of gameplay.
- Create your own Clementine - not literally, but players will now have control over what “type” of Clementine to play as. There are two avenues that players can take. First, if you’ve played Season 1 and Season 2 using the same save file, you’ll be able to play with the a story tailored by the decisions you’ve made after playing the previous seasons.
- There’s a new main character named Javier and he has an interesting story just as Clementine had with Lee, Kenny, and the Season 1 and 2 crew. We get see and play his story from the start of the zombie outbreak.
- While The Walking Dead is on Season 3, newcomers to The Walking Dead Telltale series will not be lost. Instead, the story starts fresh from a new perspective, but just know Clementine is a hardened survivor. Even though she’s young, she’s certainly seen it all. Be prepared to be schooled.
- For players returning to the series, you’ll recognize Clementine. She’s matured and is living proof she’s a survivor. You’ll also see that Telltale incorporated her into the story pretty flawlessly. You won’t be disappointed.
- The graphics are improved in The Walking Dead on Telltale’s engine, from everything including colors, detail, to character movement. It looks more like a comic than the other seasons, personally speaking.
- If you missed the article on how to import your save games from different platforms, check out the article here or take a look below at a snippet of how to carry over your save game:
- At the start of the game, players will have the option to start a “New Story” or “Continue Story,” so for those that have not played, feel free to start over and start off with Clementine. Her prior journey will be tailored for “New Story”.
- For those that want to continue the story and have save files from Season One and Two then read carefully; Telltale has offered two options:
- Story Generator: Players will be asked a series of questions that will help tailor the story to the style of player you are and the type of Clementine you were. By answering a series of questions, this helps tailor the story of Season three. Onto option 2.
- Using your season two save game: if you’re playing on the same device you’ll have the option to import your save game. Easy right?
- Now, if you want to play on a different device but still have your previous season two saves, Season Two has recently been updated on all platforms to include the “Telltale Cloud Saves,” which means an update is required and you’ll need a Telltale Account if you don’t have one already.
- What you’ll do next is enable Cloud Saves, upload your Season Two save game to the cloud launch Season Three. Make sure you’re logged into your Telltale account and download the cloud save. Your story will then transfer to the new device and you can pick up your story from Season Two.
- Basically, if you’re transferring from PS3 to PS4 or from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, this is the way to go. Telltale will be releasing a video of a step-by-step how-to in detail.
9. A New Frontier isn’t only the title of Season 3, but it represents new challenges in the world of The Walking Dead. It also represents a group of people. There’s a huge twist that will make your jaw drop.
