In an interview with IGN, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi said there’s more to the mockumentary short shown at Comic-Con than just that video. The Comic-Con skit aimed to explain why Thor sat out Captain America: Civil War, with the Norse god taking time off to live with Darryl, a white collar schlub. The video highlights the mundanity of his life in Australia, as the rest of the Avengers tear themselves apart.
According to Waititi, the Comic-Con Thor video was more than a one-off. “I think you probably could see [Darryl] again. There may be other little pieces of that thing that everyone saw that may just be a small part of a bigger thing.”
Most likely scenario: additional Team Thor viral videos to come. More intriguing scenario: a Darryl cameo in Thor: Ragnarok.
Ragnarok unites Thor and The Hulk for a “universal road movie,” Mark Ruffalo told Empire. While early rumors pegged Thor: Ragnarok as the darkest Marvel movie yet, Waititi’s flair for comedy looks to have transformed it into something else entirely. We’ll see whether or not Darryl fits into it on Nov. 3, 2017.
