Even though Americans have a higher incidence of herpes than Australians — 1 in 6 compared to 1 in 8 — Tinder always seems to roll out their new features on the continent island, presumably because it recognized Christmas in July for the FOMO cry of help that it is.
Tinder’s latest feature it’s beta testing in Australia is called Tinder Social and despite whatever Gizmodo is saying, it’s not for orgies. Not at all. Instead, as Tinder’s communications department (headed by one Rosette Pambakian, her Twitter account is featured below) waxed poetic on the official blog, it’s “not group dating, it's a fun new way to meet new people out with your friends . . . With Tinder Social, your group can match with other groups and find out where they’re going.”
Wondering how you would use Tinder Social? You’re in luck, just read this super fun paragraph: “ . . . just start a group with the friends you’re going out with, and then swipe and match with other groups also going out. You can then chat with your group matches or see their status to find out what they're up to and where everyone’s headed,” somebody who works for Tinder wrote. “It’s a way to go places full of people you’ve already matched with, making socializing so much easier once you’re out and about. Whether you’re looking for groups you share common interests with, or you’re looking for a completely new adventure, Tinder Social is a better way to go out with friends.”
Some features that rolled out in Australia first include the super-like button, where users can pay to tell someone they really, really like them, and Tinder Blend, which newsfeed-ified matches the same way Facebook messed up Instagram.
Not all features make it out of the desert, however. One nixed idea was the ability to force two of your Facebook friends to match with one another.
