Publisher Playism and developer Team Ladybug have just announced that they will soon be releasing the hit Metroidvania game Touhou Luna Nights for the Xbox One and Windows 10 via the Microsoft Store on September 3. The version will be launched with support for English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, German, and French language options.
Initially released for PC via Steam Early Access in 2018 with a version 1.0 release in 2019, Touhou Luna Nights has since received critical acclaim for its solid gameplay and innovative mechanics, as well as commercial success, with it just recently passing 150,000 official sales. Touhou Luna Nights is based on the bullet-hell video game series Touhou Project. However, in Touhou Luna Nights, players assume the role of time-stopping maid Sakya Izayoi sent to a weird and foreign world filled with youkai (evil monsters and spirits). Players make use of Izayoi's abilities to uncover the reason as to why Remilia Scarlet, head vampire of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, has banished her to this realm.
Touhou Luna Nights has been praised for its time stopping mechanic and fluid gameplay. Many have also praised its excellent usage of pixel styled art, level and boss designs, and its exciting soundtrack. Currently, it holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam out of over seven thousand reviews. On Metacritic, it is also currently boasting a very respectable 8.6 User Score. Most of the complaints regarding Touhou Luna Nights are directed towards its pretty short game length.
Touhou Luna Nights will launch for the Xbox One and Windows 10 via the Microsoft Store on September 3 for $17.99, as well as through Xbox Game Pass. Those who purchase Touhou Luna Nights on these platforms (Xbox One and Windows 10 either through the Xbox Game Pass or Microsoft Store) will be able to get an extra boss battle as a bonus feature. This boss battle against Cirno is not available in the game’s original Steam version.
A Nintendo Switch version was also announced in July 2019. No release date has been confirmed yet for this platform.
