Upcoming virtual reality game The Callisto released its latest trailer, which showed high-fidelity graphics along with what seems to be a mysterious and futuristic setting. The visuals are truly impressive, especially when compared to other similar games made by indie studios. The Callisto was made using the Unity 3D engine. This allowed it to make use of highly-optimized shaders to meet the needed high levels of performance to display VR content smoothly.

The game lets players experience a murder mystery adventure set in the future. In particular, players take on the role of an interstellar police who's investigating a triple homicide that looked to be politically motivated. The title, The Callisto, refers to the hotel on the Jovian moon where the murder occurred. In the game, players look over the crime scene, collect evidence, and even interview witnesses remotely.
The Callisto is based on the lore of the 2017 tabletop RPG known as Cold Start. It offers the puzzles of an escape room, combined with an interactive storyline. The dynamic puzzle system ensures that each playthrough is unique.
The Developer
The game is being developed by GIB Games, a completely-remote gaming studio founded during the pandemic. In creating the game, the developers took inspiration from different investigation games like The Return of the Obra Dinn and Firewatch. The developers even considered Robin Walker, developer of Half-Life: Alyx, as their major influence when it came to storytelling.
A demo of the game was first revealed during the Game Developer Expo in Ohio last year. There, the game was given an Honorable Mention in the Audio and Sound Design category.
