The Unicode Consortium has accepted 74 new emoji candidates for their Unicode 9.0 update, which will be releasing later this year. The list of emoji that have been introduced range from food (e.g. avocado, cucumber) to crossed fingers and the selfie arm.
“Emojis included as candidates for Unicode 9 are based on popular request, gender-matching pairs, and compatibility with emoticons in existing platforms,” shared the Unicode Consortium on their website. “This list has not been finalized and may be modified prior to the release of Unicode 9.0.”
