Dontnod Entertainment ’s new trailer for their upcoming gothic RPG Vampyr reveals the reaction of London’s denizens to Dr. Reid, the mysterious new arrival in town. Check out the new Vampyr trailer titled “The Darkness Within”:
In a press release, the plot of Vampyr is described as follows:
“Set in 1918 London during a deadly bout of the Spanish Flu that left London's alleys and promenades wailing in agony, Dr Reid awakes having arrived home from serving in the Great War with a deathly new ailment: vampirism. A doctor, Reid considers his affliction another disease. As he tries to understand and live with it, he also desperately attempts to continue his life as a doctor, helping those stricken with flu.”
The new Vampyr trailer emphasizes the reaction of the citizenry, whom you as Dr. Reid both prey upon and protect. Every death has an impact and every murdered soul has a story. Shops may close and relatives may mourn the death of their loved ones depending on who you choose to be your next victim. With vampire hunters growing on the streets of London, using human blood to feed your talents and increase your strength will be a real temptation.
“ Armed with an array of conventional melee and ranged weaponry, attack and dodge enemies to fill up Jonathan’s Blood Gauge, required to unleash powerful vampire attacks. From impaling enemies on a spike to draining them of blood at a distance, as Jonathan’s Blood Gauge fills during a combat situation, his Vampire affliction will start to overtake his more human side, unleashing destructive spells and abilities against those who try to stop him,” explained game director Philippe Moreau in a post on the Playstation blog.
Without blood, you’ll be at the mercy of your enemies, but with blood, whatever’s left of your humanity will dwindle. Vampyr ’s central decision promises to be a powerful choice to make.
