The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere opens with a scene familiar to fans. It was the teaser that they originally showed during New York Comic Con 2016. The one where Rick so boldly threatened Negan. No Negan victim just yet. Here’s a quick recap of what happened in The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere.
Negan, like any rational person would react, questioned Rick as to WHY he would threaten him when he has no power. Negan drags Rick into the RV where he proceeds to take Rick on one hell of a mind fuck. He forces rick to pick up his axe, then he takes the axe and throws it into a herd of walkers. Rick has flashes of his group members. One by one, we see Rick think about his people.
Negan baits Rick, tells him he better get the axe or more of his people die. Rick scrambles away from the walkers and climbs to the top of the RV, where he thinks about what happened. We see Abraham tell Negan to “eat my nuts” when he’s picked to die. Negan swings his bat at Abraham’s skull. We see Negan beat the holy hell out of Abraham.
And then Daryl ruins things for everyone. He tries to attack Negan and fails. Negan punished Daryl for the outburst by keeping him alive. He punishes the group by killing Glenn. Oh you thought Glenn was going to live? Nope. Negan hits Glenn in the head one and pops his eye out of his skull. A bloody Glenn tries to say something to Maggie. We think he says he’s sorry to Maggie.
Once Rick finally brought back the axe, Negan brings the RV back to their little camp. He then makes Carl sit next to his father and gives Rick an ultimatum: chop off your son’s arm or else everyone will die. Rick begs Negan not to make him do it. Rick begs Negan to cut his own arm off instead. Negan isn't interested in negotiating and just when Rick was at his worst, Negan stops him from cutting off Carl’s arm. Negan makes Rick repeat after him. Negan makes Rick admit he now works for him, provides for him, and belongs to him.
And if that wasn’t horrible enough. Negan takes Daryl as his hostage. Daryl is leverage for Negan. If Rick tries anything to betray him, Negan will chop him to pieces and send him to Rick. But Maggie is the first to get up after Negan and The Saviors leave. Maggie is determined to get revenge for Glenn’s death. Rick begs her to sit, but she won’t listen. Sasha tries to calm Maggie who wants to pick up Glenn’s body. Sasha, Rosita and Eugene pick up Abe. Carl, Rick, Michonne and Aaron grab Glenn’s body. Maggie cries hysterically. The last image we see is of Rick’s broken face.
