Daryl Dixon does not exist in a universe where he’s resourceful enough to send hidden messages in morse code.
Unfortunately, showrunner Scott Gimple has debunked one The Walking Dead Season 7 fan theory about Daryl’s return to Alexandria. Speculation circulated a few weeks ago, claiming Daryl’s strange blinking was associated with morse code. One fan translated Daryl’s blinks into coordinates and shared it on reddit :
HOLY SHIT I THINK HE SAYS "I EAST"...
First part before cutaway:
Dot. Dot. [I]
Then coming back:
Dot (fast) [E]
Dot (fast) Dash (long) [A]
Dot. Dot. Dot. [S]
Nope. Sorry, not the case here.
"I would like to live in a world where Daryl Dixon residually learns morse code and knows that Rick has an intimate knowledge of morse code, as well, and that they have practiced this with blinks," Gimple told ComicBook.com. "I would love that. I will also say that it was an incredibly sunny day.”
Yeah, the morse code blinking theory was a stretch. Rick wouldn’t risk anyone’s life to save Daryl, not unless he truly believed all his people have a good chance of surviving a rescue mission. Rick knows the Saviors will kill them on sight if they should up to their compound unannounced. The Saviors have go to great lengths to keep their home base location a secret. Negan would never trust Rick and would kill everyone in Alexandria.
Still, we know other communities want to take out Negan. Hilltop, The Kingdom and now the Oceanside community all want Negan dead, but are too afraid to take them out. The Oceanside community saw Negan kill all of their men. The Kingdom has worked out a peaceful agreement with The Saviors, even though King Ezekiel hates their situation. Meanwhile, Gregory is too much of a coward to stand up to Negan.
We’re not looking to Rick to bring the communities together. It seems like Maggie, Carol and Tara will be the ones to offer an alternative way of dealing with Negan. The Walking Dead Season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
