Rosita is probably the only person in the history of The Walking Dead to actually learn their lesson. In The Walking Dead Season 8 episode 7, Rosita walked away from Daryl, Michonne, Tara and Morgan’s plan. Their plan was to drive a truck through the Sanctuary walls again, hoping this time, the walkers would attack more people and hopefully take out Negan. But Rosita said no to their idea. This is important.
Rosita went rogue on Rick twice and dealt with the consequences. When she tried to kill Negan the first time, Alexandria lost Eugene. And the second time she went after Negan, Sasha ended up dead in a coffin. Old Rosita would have gone along with Daryl’s plot, but she’s wiser now and refuses. Rosita tells Michonne it’s too risky and sometimes it’s better to let things play out. You just don’t always get to know the ending.
Rick’s plan to starve out Negan’s people probably would’ve worked—Rosita believed in Rick’s vision and knew she couldn’t be careless. That’s a drastic change in character from the last time we saw her in The Walking Dead Season 7, when she was set on revenge. Rosita is now smart enough to know things take time. However, Daryl, Michonne, Tara and Morgan’s impatience has cost Rick a really big win.
Rosita left the Sanctuary before the plan went through, but that doesn’t mean she lives to see another day. In the comics, Rosita survives the All Out War storyline until they encounter another group, The Whisperers. While I’m glad to see Rosita come to her senses, the show has a way of shifting your hatred towards certain characters. Kind of like how everyone hates Eugene now.
What I’m most curious about is Rosita’s next move. It seems like she has been pushed to the side a bit, at least for the first half of Season 8. While Rosita and Sasha had a lot of scenes last season due to their desire to avenge Abraham, it would be cool to see her work with Dwight and Daryl again. Maybe Dwight will finally apologize for the way he acted towards Rosita. Obviously, it won’t be long before Negan finds out the news of Dwight’s betrayal.
What do you think will happen to Rosita? Do you think she’ll have a bigger role in the All Out War storyline? Let us know in the comments below. The Walking Dead Season 8 midseason finale airs Sunday, Dec. 10 at 9 p.m.
