The first teaser trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes debuted at New York Comic Con in October and will finally see a public release in the coming weeks. According to Trailer Track, a site that follows movie marketing footage through the various international rating boards, Germany’s Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft has rated the 91-second teaser trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes, indicating an imminent release date for the footage. Though there’s no exact release date, it seems likely you’ll be able to scope out the teaser trailer for yourself before the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Dec. 16 release.
So what should you expect from the new Planet of the Apes footage? At the end of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Caesar knew war with the humans was upon them, their last chance for peace destroyed by the brief, violent reign of Koba. Not only has the relationship between the two dominant species on the planet deteriorated, but in ending the violence Caesar was forced to violate the core of ape law: “Ape Not Kill Ape.” The stage is set for a final conflict, one which will test not only the apes’ survival, but also Caesar’s soul. Will he repay violence with violence, subjugating the humans for generations, until the astronaut Taylor returns to Earth in the distant future and writes an apocalyptic end to the ape empire?
The teaser trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes opens outside San Francisco, where the Colonel (Woody Harrelson) attempts a daring nighttime raid on Ape City. Their goal: assassinate Caesar. We get quick glimpses of Caesar and the apes fighting back, taking out the armed hit squad in the narrow passageways of the ape capital. It’s basically Caesar vs. SEAL Team Six. The rest of the teaser is your typical quick-cut footage barrage, showcasing the immense scale of War for the Planet of the Apes.
You’ll see for yourself soon enough. Then we have only to wait until July 14, 2017 for the War for the Planet of the Apes release date.
