Warhammer: Chaosbane is finally launching next week, with a promise to introduce some dark and gritty dungeons players can explore. To get fans even more excited, developer Eko Software has just released a new cinematic trailer, revealing the game’s backstory.
The hack-and-slash dungeon crawler is trying to bring some gameplay elements from Diablo. With the new story trailer, fans now have a general idea of all the smashing they will be doing in the game.
Based on the trailer, we now know that Chaosbane starts a few years following the Chaos Invasion of 2301. Also, it takes place just after the devastation of Praag, which is the largest city located in the northern realm of Kislev. Magnus the Pious can be seen leading an Imperial army devoted to fighting Chaos. He then eliminates the latter’s champion, named Kul, in a battle outside the walls of the city.
The Warhammer lore suggests that Magnus eventually gets crowned as the Emperor, and this is precisely the backdrop for the events in Chaosbane. Apparently, though, the new trailer does not connect these massive world-level events to the game itself. We are assuming it is the player’s job to do this and purge the remnants of Chaos from the area. Even more so, players will be tasked to prevent these remnants from ever conjuring a war-fighting force.
The trailer does not offer any looks at gameplay, but the developers confirmed the game will include four-player co-op in an isometric, action RPG style. So far, the reception from those in the beta has been pretty impressive.
Warhammer: Chaosbane will offer four character classes, and all of them are somewhat expected from this genre. For instance, the soldier class is without a doubt designed for tank players. The dwarf class is all about displaying melee combats. There are two types of elf class builds – one is known for laying traps and the other is a magic practitioner.
The game is slated to arrive on June 4. But if you are an owner of the Magnus Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition, you should be able to play the game as early as May 31.
