In Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 episode 7, which airs Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC, Chief Bailey is orchestrating an overhaul of the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital residency program, which could result in several doctors losing their jobs, including Dr. Webber.
A sneak peek of episode 7 shows Chief Bailey and Webber discussing a new doctor that Bailey brought in to observe the residents. At first Webber is upset and feeling like the person is stepping on his toes. Then he realizes Bailey intends to have the doctor replace him as the head of the residency program.
In episode 6, Bailey and Katherine Avery, who is a member of the Grey Sloan board of directors, discuss the shortcomings of the residency program. Katherine believes that Webber is at the core of the reason why Grey Sloan has lost its title as the premier teaching hospital in the country.
What makes it really messy is that Katherine Avery is Dr. Webber’s wife and Bailey was his mentee when he was chief and she was a resident.
An episode 7 promo shows several doctors concerned for their jobs when they realize the residency program is being changed. The promo hints at conflict between Bailey and Webber amid the changes.
