Tim Cook will address Apple’s ongoing battle with the FBI over unlocking the iPhone connected to the December 2015 San Bernardino shooting in an exclusive interview tonight at 6:30 p.m. EST on 'World News Tonight with David Muir.'
An extended version of the interview will be viewable online at ABCNews.com following World News Tonight with David Muir. A portion of the interview will also air at 12:35 a.m. EST on Nightline, as well as later on Good Morning America, ABC NewsOne (ABC News's Affiliate News Service) and ABC News Radio.
The official live streaming page for ABC News is located here, but ABC News is not planning to livestream the Tim Cook interview. Once World News with David Muir has finished airing, however, the full episode will be viewable here.
Cook, speaking for Apple, recently doubled down on the position taken in an open letter regarding the Department of Justice recent court order to create an alternative version of iOS to help the FBI crack into an encrypted iPhone. The public relations scuffle between the FBI and Apple has dominated the national headlines since the open letter’s publication, with even Bill Gates weighing in (albeit reluctantly) on the debate.
Apple’s objections to effectively being forced to create a backdoor to iOS has been backed by multiple tech-related companies, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Mozilla. FBI Director James Comey, speaking on behalf of the FBI, responded by publishing a blog post on Lawfare, writing, “The particular legal issue is actually quite narrow. The relief we seek is limited and its value increasingly obsolete because the technology continues to evolve.”
World News Tonight with David Muir is also viewable on Hulu, Stitcher, YouTube, and the ABC News app, which is available on an assortment of devices, including but not limited to iOS, Android, Kindles and the Xbox One.
