WhatsApp has recently undergone several changes to make it more user-friendly, with the exception of one thing: GIF compatibility. According to Twitter account @WABetaInfo, the upcoming iOS update will offer users to send and receive GIFs. Should the Facebook-owned app roll out GIF support, they’ll be following the footsteps of Facebook Messenger and Twitter.
Other speculation surrounding the new iOS update focuses on a “video call” feature, technically released in the app’s last update, though the option to make a video call was only made available to beta testers. For those with access, selecting on the phone icon triggers a pop-up window that gives users the choice to select between an audio call and a video call.
Earlier this year, a small WhatsApp update allowed users to change the style of their messages to bold, italics and strike out. Changing the formatting is relatively simple and requires adding characters before and after the word you would like to format. To bold text, users add an asterisk before and after the word(s), a tilde for strikethrough and an underscore for italics.
