The whole Agents of SHIELD team is stuck inside AIDA’s virtual reality framework, but what she doesn’t know is they have a secret weapon on the outside: Ghost Rider.
TV Line has learned Gabriel Luna will return as Robbie Reyes. Fans were surprised to learn Ghost Rider would leave the show after the first pod, titled Ghost Rider, marking the character’s first debut in the MCU. Robbie went his own way before the team was confronted with the threat of Dr. Radcliffe and Fitz’ invention, AIDA. The sentient robot arc took the name LMD , Life Model Decoy, which is a familiar and dangerous tech in the Marvel Universe. One by one, AIDA replaced SHIELD agents with decoys and hooked them up to her virtual reality machine, which let them live out their lives without their biggest regrets. This new world, which she called the framework, eventually had everyone in it except for Jemma and Daisy.
Once they figured out they were the only two people left in the real world, Jemma and Daisy knew they had to hack themselves into the framework, wake everybody up and escape. The moment they went inside the framework marked the start of the third pod, Agents of HYDRA . Inside AIDA’s world, HYDRA replaced SHIELD and the whole world hates inhumans. We got to see characters like Grant Ward and Agent Trip once again, fighting alongside the SHIELD team to overthrow HYDRA and escape the framework.
But they haven’t been successful in their efforts yet and AIDA has some new crazy plan. She wants to transform her brain from the framework into a human body in the real world. This clearly can’t happen, or else she and her evil husband (poor Fitz) will trap the team inside the framework forever.
There are still a few episodes left before the finale, where Robbie returns and Ghost Rider’s current location is unknown. Last we saw, he set Eli Morrow ablaze after learning he had his own sinister plans for the Darkhold. He chose to kill Morrow instead of escaping back to Earth through the interdimensional gate with the rest of the team. Who knows where in the multiverse he ended up, but considering his immense power set, we knew he would turn up again someday.
Well the day has come. Ghost Rider is returning in the May 16 finale. Yo-Yo, General Talbot and a new character known as “silhouetted man” played by Joel Stoffer of Charmed, will also appear.
AIDA is just as powerful as any inhuman. She makes calculated decisions and has infinite knowledge and strength. She can’t even feel pain. The only one who stands a chance against her is Ghost Rider. He’s pretty much indestructible, especially if he survived and interdimensional explosion and trip through the multiverse.
So what do you think? Will Ghost Rider be the one to take down AIDA once and for all in the Agents of SHIELD finale? Let us know in the comments.
