The Witcher TV series was one of the more popular shows last year. The anticipated season 2 had already begun production, but due to the recent coronavirus outbreak the production has sadly come to halt.
The news comes from Deadline that states The Witcher happened to be the first major TV production that has shut down due to rising concerns of coronavirus. Season 2 of the acclaimed series was already under production at Arborfield Studios, about 40 miles from London. "We have made the decision, effective immediately, to pause production for two weeks during this difficult time. This will allow everyone the time to make informed decisions about how to move forward," The Witcher's production team told Deadline.
The Witcher halting its production follows just after Netflix suspended the production of its US and Canada-based TV shows and movies. Deadline also reported that productions outside of the US are being monitored on a case-by-case basis.
Even this past week has witnessed the suspension of many TV shows and movie productions, including Amazon's Lord of the Rings show, The Batman movie from DC, and several Disney movies such as Shang-Chi, The Little Mermaid, and The Legend of the Ten Rings.
Additionally, many anticipated movies have had their release date pushed back or even canceled. The highly anticipated Bond film No Time To Die and Fast & Furious 9 are now expected to release in November 2020 and April 2021 respectively.
Coming back to The Witcher TV show, despite the fact that production has been suspended for two weeks, we aren't sure when filming will resume. The Witcher's second season was expected to release during fall 2021. Even though it is possible that the TV show will end up premiering in that time window, the evolving nature of the coronavirus seems to disrupt every schedule. Therefore, we can only wait and see what the producing team has to say about The Witcher's Season 2 debut before we draw our own conclusions.
