‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer: 5 Best Moments

This new Wonder Woman trailer will have you counting down the days until the June 2 release date. The new footage chronicles Wonder Woman’s origins -- from the time she was an innocent little girl listening to stories about the Godkiller sword, to her rigorous training with Ann Wolf to her first time leaving Themyscira. Let’s break down the trailer. Here are the top five moments.

ARTEMIS

Played by one of the best female boxers in history, Ann Wolfe, Artemis is one of Wonder Woman’s allies who teaches her to become a fierce warrior. Wonder Woman’s mother tells Artemis to train Diana five times harder than the normal warrior, presumably in preparation for her eventual confrontation with Ares, the god of war. Skip to 30 seconds to see Artemis in action.

THE LASSO

Wonder Woman breaks out the classic Lasso to take down some baddies in London, a city that she tells Steve Trevor “looks hideous.” Diana wraps the rope around one guy’s feet to bring him down to the ground. Hopefully, we’ll also get to see the golden Lasso make its victims tell the truth.

CHRIS PINE

Chris Pine is looking good as Steve Trevor. Diana finds the American (disguised as a British pilot) washed up on the beach and rescues him. The Germans are after him because he has important intelligence and Trevor’s presence brings the battle to Themyscira (see forces charging at 1:11). Wonder Woman learns of World War I and she agrees to help, because she fears Ares could be involved. She and Steve Trevor (who have amazing chemistry in this new footage) go on a journey to save the world and Diana finally discovers the full extent of her greatness along the way.

QUEEN HIPPOLYTA

Diana’s mother helps us learn about her daughter's legacy through narration, though she hides the information from Diana. “The gods gave us many gifts,” she tells a young Diana, “One day you’ll know them all.” When Diana asks who will yield the Godkiller sword, her mother responds, “Only the fiercest among us… that is not you, Diana.” Though we know because of the look in young Diana’s eyes she will become that warrior tasked with holding the Godkiller and killing Ares.

ANTIOPE

Antiope, played by Robin Wright, had some of the most exciting moves in the trailer. She’s a much more skilled warrior than Diana, as the training sessions in the trailer prove. That is, until Diana gets angry and uses her powers for the first time, sending shockwaves through Amazonian spectators watching. It’s clear Hippolyta and Antiope have different ideas about how to raise Diana and prepare her for battle with Ares. Antiope is the first to start training Diana, of course, in secret.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Another moment worth mentioning is the appearance of Danny Huston. What was most surprising was he comes face to face with Diana, not looking all that afraid of her strength. We have a few theories on why that could be, but it does have to do with Dr. Poison, who we briefly see (played by Elena Anaya) in the screenshot below.

There were also a few comedic moments that stuck out, considering DC usually lacks in that department. At the very end of the trailer, Diana (dressed in casual clothes) still insists on carrying her sword and shield through a revolving door. “Yep. That’s not going to work. Please put the sword down,” Steve says under his breath as onlookers stare.
