While details are still scarce about the Xbox Scorpio, Microsoft’s beefed-up Xbox One replacement, we do have some encouraging words from the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer.
When asked by a fan how well the Scorpio will run older Xbox One games, Spencer is “very confident” the new console will perform fine. Spencer also confirmed the Scorpio will be able to play all of the Xbox 360 games currently offered on the Backward Compatibility program.
Additionally, Spencer replied to other fans mentioning how excited he is for 2017. The plans for Microsoft are to have more first party games than last year, and to launch a new IP. Spencer clarified that the new IP in question is Sea of Thieves, so don’t start speculating on what he could be talking about.
We know that Microsoft plans on releasing the Scorpio during the 2017 holiday season, which means we are likely going to see a big reveal of the new console at this year’s E3. It is possible Microsoft pulls a Sony and instead has its own event to reveal the Scorpio, so we’ll have to wait until June to see if Microsoft pulls back the curtain or not.
