SCS Software released new footage of the next American Truck Simulator expansion, which adds New Mexico to the list of southwestern states to explore in its latest trucking sim. The new trailer doesn’t tell us everything we want to know about ATS’s upcoming New Mexico DLC. But we do get to see some of the sights and sounds waiting in the Land of Enchantment.
If you’ve ever spent any time driving in New Mexico, the landscapes from the next American Truck Simulator expansion should immediately feel familiar. The state may not have any world-famous natural landmarks but it definitely has its own unique look, characterized in part by the abundance of red clay seen outside the state’s biggest cities. And there’s plenty of wide open spaces. But the urban areas of New Mexico have their own distinct features, including a spaghetti junction in Albuquerque that proved quite troublesome for the developers tasked with making sure it didn’t break the game.
There are plenty of smaller attractions too, including the sorts of small towns that make states like New Mexico so popular with those averse to larger population centers. From the looks of things, we’ll be making deliveries to more remote facilities, like mining sites, and there will be plenty of truck stops to visit along the way. There are even new new road hazards in American Truck Simulator ’s New Mexico DLC, including light aircraft crashes.
There’s still no timeline for the new expansion. A blog post accompanying the new trailer confirms SCS Software is putting the “finishing touches” on American Truck Simulator’s next map expansion. But we still don’t know when ATS fans will get to explore the home of hatch chiles, hot air balloons and Walter White. Or how much the New Mexico DLC will cost when it arrives.
