2020 was quite a year for everyone around the globe. After the initial shock of the pandemic, the world has gone into a lockdown. Among many ways people did, to pass the time, was immerse themselves in video games. One of the games that quickly rose to popularity in 2020 was Innersloth's cooperative/multiplayer game, Among Us.
How Popular did Among Us Get?
According to a recent report by SuperData, Among Us has broken records of being the "most popular game" of November 2020. SuperData also confirmed that roughly half a billion players enjoyed the game in November alone. This is definitely great news for Innersloth, which consists of only four employees.
The report showed that Among Us has beaten several top-grossing games across all platforms. These included Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, League of Legends, and PUBG.
If you didn't know, Among Us is free on mobile devices. But on Steam, the game costs only $5. It is from the PC platform that the developer made most of its revenue between August and November.
A Brief About Among Us
Originally released in 2018, Among Us only became popular this year. A major part of its success could be due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, several streamers, content creators, and even politicians jumped on to the game, making it popular.
Unlike most modern games, Among Us doesn't have flashy graphics. Instead, it features a simple 2D design, which is super enjoyable to play. It's a joy to see that a game like this is breaking records when anticipated AAA titles are failing to keep up with promises.
Recently, Xbox confirmed that Among Us is joining the Xbox Game Pass for PC. Plus, Innersloth confirmed that it is working on a new map for the game, which should be arriving very soon.
Among Us is available on Android, iOS, and PC.
