EA revealed in their third-quarter earnings call that Respawn’s famous battle royale game, Apex Legends, is finally getting a mobile port along with a China release. News about the mobile version for Apex Legends first came during Season 2, although EA and Respawn were quick to say that it’s just a possibility in the future and that there is no official release date.
But now, Industry Insider and Analyst Daniel Ahmad tweeted that during their third-quarter earnings call, EA mentioned that they are working with a Chinese partner to develop a mobile version of Apex Legends which will be released worldwide. EA only confirmed the existence of the mobile version, but the release date is still unknown.
“Rolling mobile out in China, you need to have a partner, and we’re, as we’ve said in the prepared remarks today, working with a partner there," EA CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed in the call. "We’re very excited about the opportunity.”
EA has not revealed the specific Chinese company they have partnered with, but there is a high chance that it is the Chinese conglomerate Tencent. It makes sense, as EA have previously worked with the publisher to release FIFA Online 4 and Need for Speed Online. Tencent fully owns League of Legend developer, Riot Games, and also own stock in several other companies like Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, and Epic Games. Just recently, Tencent published the mobile version of Call of Duty with Activision.
For now, Apex Legends is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A new season, Assimilation, will also launch in February, as the game celebrates its first anniversary. Assimilation will bring new legend Revenant along with the bolt action sniper known as Sentinal. Several rank changes will also be made, you can check out the complete reveal over here.
