Apex Legends is different from other Battle Royale games thanks to its emphasis on teamwork. Teamwork is crucial in the game, and that’s why many Legends have been designed in a way that benefits the rest of the team more than the single player.
Apex Legends' recent update added Duos Mode in the game permanently. Duos mode was added in Apex Legends a couple of months ago, but it was later removed. Now the new (or old) mode is here to stay. That’s not the only mode that Respawn tested a while back. Fans of the game demanded a Solo Mode for months and developers finally listened. A limited time solo mode was added in the game to check how well it would do. It performed badly, to say the least. A solo mode in a team-based game just doesn’t work. The abilities of multiple Legends became useless and sometimes even worked against players.
"When we introduced Solos as a limited-time mode last year we saw it actually negatively impacted the game, especially when it came to new player retention," EA_David, a community manager at EA, said on a forum. "We’ve also purposely designed Legends and their abilities to compliment teamplay and squad composition, but when played Solo some Legend abilities become useless. These are just some of the reasons we decided not to include Solos in today’s update."
While the Duos Mode was beneficial, the same can’t be said for the Solo mode. There was one more major issue with Solo mode which even I personally encountered. Many squads queue solo mode together at the same time in hopes of getting into the same match. Then those players will band together, effectively putting every other player at a big disadvantage. Thankfully, we won’t have to face that issue ever again.
Respawn is also interested in adding cross-play support into Apex Legends which will surely increase the longevity of the game.
