Microsoft has announced the list of free games coming to Xbox Live Gold subscribers in June, and it may be one of the best months of games offered through the service. Not only are three of the four major AAA releases, there’s a free DLC pack for a fifth game coming as well.
Xbox One Games
First up for the Xbox One is SpeedRunners. While this game may not have the name recognition of the other three games on this list, SpeedRunners is still worth the time to check out. Referred to as a “competitive multiplayer Mario” by Kotaku, players race to be the first one at the end of a 2D side-scrolling stage. Players also have access to a variety of tools like a grappling hook, missiles, bombs and more to slow down opponents.
SpeedRunners has also been recognized as an esport by the Electronic Sports League, so now’s your chance to get good and go pro.
SpeedRunners will be free to download from June 1 to 30.
The second game for Xbox One owners is the Ubisoft open-world hackathon Watch Dogs. Some felt Watch Dogs didn’t live up to its potential with uninspired gameplay and incredibly unlikable characters, while others praised the game for its interesting themes and the laying of a promising groundwork for a future franchise. Regardless of your thoughts on the game, the free price tag cannot be beat.

The last thing for Xbox One owners is a free multiplayer DLC pack for Phantom Dust. It’s unprecedented, but obviously welcome, that Microsoft would offer an additional free item for Xbox Gold subscribers. Seeing as how Phantom Dust is currently free right now as well, there’s a lot of gaming to be had for very little money.
The Phantom Dust DLC will be available to download for free from June 1 to June 30.
Xbox 360
The first game coming for Xbox 360 (and Xbox One via Backward Compatibility) in June is Assassin’s Creed 3. Set in the American Revolution, Assassin’s Creed 3 tells the story of Connor, a young man who must work with the Americans to overthrow the British, while also working with the Assassins to overthrow the Templar.
Assassin’s Creed 3 is a free download for Xbox Live Gold subscribers from June 1 to June 15.
The last game offered for free through Games With Gold in June is Dragon Age: Origins. This epic RPG from BioWare is the first entry in the Dragon Age franchise and a great starting point if you want to work up to the recently released Dragon Age: Inquisition. After creating a character, players go on a journey across Ferelden to end the Blight of invading Darkspawn along with an archdemon that is controlling them.
Dragon Age: Inquisition can be downloaded for free from June 16 to June 30.
