The SNES Classic mini console will have some competition this fall from other retro consoles. With new hardware for both Atari and SEGA, retro gamers will be able to relive the gaming glory days of any old console in HD on modern TVs.
Six new retro consoles are coming this fall, three Atari consoles and three SEGA ones. No official release dates have been confirmed for any of the systems. Each console has its own set of features and games, but most share upgrades like HDMI support and wireless controller compatibility. The new consoles are broken down further below:
Atari Consoles
Atari Flashback 8 Gold
The Atari Flashback 8 Gold console includes 120 built-in Atari classics including River Raid, Kaboom!, Centipede and many more
Two wireless controllers modeled after the classic Atari joystick are included
Two legacy ports to plug in old Atari controllers and paddles
720p HDMI output, scan line filtering, and a save/pause/rewind feature for every game
Atari Flashback 8
The Atari Flashback 8 includes 105 built-in Atari classics such as Pitfall!
Two wired controllers modeled after the classic Atari joystick are included
Two legacy ports to plug in old Atari controllers and paddles
Atari Flashback Portable
The Atari Flashback Portable only includes 70 Atari classics, but adds portability
SD Card slot included to add extra games
Built-in rechargeable battery
Play games on the 2.8-inch screen or plug the console into a TV to play on the big screen
SEGA Consoles
SEGA Genesis Flashback
Features 85 built-in games including Sonic games, Mortal Kombat games, Phantasy Star games and more
Integrated cartridge port to play old SEGA Genesis and Master System cartridges
Two wireless controllers modeled after the SEGA Genesis controllers are included
Two built-in legacy ports to allow for real SEGA Genesis controllers to be plugged in
720p HDMI output, scan line filtering, and a save/pause/rewind feature for every game
SEGA Genesis Classic Console
Includes 81 built-in games such as Shining Force and Shining Force 2
Two wired controllers modeled after the classic SEGA Genesis controller are included
Two built-in legacy ports to allow for real SEGA Genesis controllers to be plugged in
Ultimate Portable Game Player
85 SEGA Genesis and Master System games included
