A new teaser trailer for Away: Journey to the Unexpected , the first-person rogue-like unveiled during last month’s Nindies Showcase, has been released by developer Playdius Entertainment. The studio has also revealed a handful of new details on Away’s website, including estimated play times and other less-specific information on the game’s story and structure.
We still know next to nothing about the colorful, semi-three-dimensional world we’ll be exploring when Away: Journey to the Unexpected hits PC and all three current-gen consoles later in the year. Playdius describes Away as a “first-person adventure game” that incorporates rogue-like elements, real-time combat and frequent negotiations. Recruiting allies will play a big role in the game, in part because you can play as each friendly NPC who joins the cause, and Playdius says players can choose their own path through Journey to the Unexpected’s story.
Away will be playable at PAX East 2017 this weekend and Playdius expects to need alpha and beta playtesters in the near future; however, there are only two people working on Away: Journey to the Unexpected full-time. So it’s almost impossible to know when development will be complete, or even when Away will be ready for playtesting, much less publication on four platforms simultaneously. But we’ll certainly be ready to give the game a shot whenever Journey to the Unexpected finally debuts.
