'Battlefield 6' Rumored To Have 'Biggest Playtest' in Franchise History To Avoid Disastrous Launch

DICE and Electronic Arts are working to avoid another Battlefield 2042 fiasco by having the biggest playtest in the franchise's history to ensure that Battlefield 6 is successful. Steam, DICE, Electronic Arts

There are reports that claim Battlefield 6 is conducting the franchise's biggest playtest in history in order to ensure that the latest entry's launch is successful.

This is something that developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts are more likely trying to do to prevent something similar to what happened with Battlefield 2042. Reports claim that the playtest for Battlefield 6 is much more intensive than any other in history.

Battlefield 2042 Playtest

It is said to have multiple sessions and the studios are using it to collect a massive amount of data and feedback from participating players. They are supposedly making use of a "player first" approach with the new playtest.

The situation could suggest that DICE and Electronic Arts are working to address players' needs and concerns before releasing the full game. Battlefield 6 is expected to arrive sometime in 2025.

The problem when Battlefield 2042 was released in 2021 was that it was heavily criticized by critics and fans for having so many bugs and missing elements of gameplay. This resulted in a bombardment of negative reviews and ratings, according to Screen Rant.

Many people said that the game as a whole felt like it lacked polish and was simply rushed out of production to meet a deadline. Battlefield 2042 had a lot of players when it launched but this quickly dwindled until it became one of the worst-reviewed games of its year.

Avoiding a Disastrous Launch

The rumors of the playtest suggest that DICE and Electronic Arts are working hard to ensure that this does not happen with the upcoming entry into the franchise. This could also mean that Battlefield 6 may look more like what fans of the series want from the game.

The last time that an entry in the Battlefield franchise was actually considered successful was with 2016's Battlefield 1 which had a World War I theme.

That particular game surpassed the sales of both Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline combined, WCCFTech said.

Battlefield 2042 is said to be going back to the franchise's roots and will allow up to 64 players to fight in the same match. All of the official marketing for the game looks promising but fans are still somewhat skeptical of its potential.

The latest entry in the franchise has the highest allocation of resources compared to any game in the series. There are currently four studios working on the game and Electronic Arts seems to be focusing on player feedback this time around, according to Insider Gaming.
