After the snafu that was Diablo Immortal from last year's BlizzCon, Blizzard's newest announcement is sure to excite fans of action role-playing games. To make the long story short, Diablo 4 has finally.... FINALLY been confirmed.
You can watch the announcement cinematic below:
In the trailer above, a group of four adventurers are trying to get access to what they think is a treasure room while being chased by monsters. One of the members manages to get the room open and is forced inside by the other two. The remaining member is left outside. It is revealed that the room is actually ussed for summoning and this is where everything begins.
Lore
Diablo 4 takes place years after Diablo 3. The Black Soulstone has been destroyed with the rime Evil defeated. The Angel of Death Malthael has fallen and millions have been slaughtered by the actions of both High Heavens and Burning Hells alike. The resulting power vacuum has resulted in the resurfacing of the legendary Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto and whispered progenitor of humanity. Her grip on Sanctuary cuts deep into the hearts of everyone and cultivates in the worst in its denizens, leaving the world a dark and hopeless place.
Campaign
In Diablo 4, the approach to the campaign is to broaden Sanctuary in a way that has never been explored. The game continues to offer a fully open world with players getting the chance to adventure through five unique and dangerous regions. Unlike previous games, the regions can be visited in any order and have been seamlessly connected for uninterrupted journeys.
While the game continues to offer co-op play of up to four players, there is still the option to go solo. Players can explore the campaign at their own pace, fight their way across randomized dungeons for rare loot, and find items without ever joining a group.
Classes
For character classes, five are going to be introduced at launch. Three of the classes revealed at this year's BlizzCon were:
- Barbarian
- Sorceress
- Druid
Blizzard announced that additional information for Diablo 4, as well as a closer look, is still coming tomorrow during the second day of BlizzCon 2019.
