Gearbox Games, the developers behind the popular looter-shooter franchise Borderlands, officially announced earlier that Borderlands 3 will be in stores on September 13 of this year. In a post from the game’s official Twitter page, Borderlands 3 will be coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
Borderlands 3 is the third numbered title for the Borderlands franchise, which includes Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and a handful of spin-offs to the series as well. Borderlands 3 was teased earlier this year in a cryptic tweet from the developers, which left fans curious and high with anticipation. However, rumors and speculation can be officially put to rest with the announcement that Borderlands 3 is well in the works and set to launch on September 13.
Although the release date is still a few months away, Borderlands 3 is already available for pre-order from the game’s official website linked here. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with each platform getting both a physical and digital release. On PC, it seems rumors were correct that Borderlands 3 will be released as yet another Epic Games Store timed exclusive. While anyone who pre-orders the game, regardless of edition, receive the Gold Weapon Skins Pack, Gearbox offers several editions with various bonus content for its hardcore fans.
Gearbox also announced that they’ll be having a gameplay reveal event on May 1, so we’ll be sure to be tune in and find out what we can about the highly-anticipated sequel. It’s been seven years since Borderlands 2 came out, and we’re dying to hear more about the franchise’s overarching story and meet the latest title’s four brand-new Vault Hunters.
Borderlands may just be the pioneer of the now widely-popular looter-shooter genre of action games. Combining core RPG elements with fast-paced first-person shooter gameplay and the addictive drive of loot-hunting, Borderlands helped create a genre. The third major installment to the franchise brings players new characters, a new story, and ‘a billion guns’, so we’re definitely excited to see what’s in store for us at the May 1 Gameplay Reveal event.
